Rice and O'Connor Join Longford

Longford Town have announced the signings of Stephen Rice from Shamrock Rovers and Kevin O'Connor from Bray Wanderers.

29 year old Rice signs for Longford Town having spent 6 years at Shamrock Rovers, where he made over 150 appearances for the Hoops.

While at Tallaght, Rice won 2 League Titles, 2 Setanta Cups and a Leinster Senior Cup. He was also voted the club's Player of the Year in 2010.

Rice will be remember though by most Rovers fans for scoring the opening goal in their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League at White Hart Lane.

Midfielder Kevin O'Connor joins 'De Town' having spent a year and a half at Wicklow club Bray Wanderers. Kevin O'Connor has previously played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stockport County, AFC Telford United and Worcester City, all in England.

Ironically enough, Kevin O'Connor's last appearance for the Seagulls was against Longford Town at the City Calling Stadium in the 2013 Promotion/Relegation play-off. O'Connor scored a wonder strike for Bray in the final few minutes of the match, securing a 5-4 aggregate victory for the Wicklow side, thus keeping Wanderers up and Longford down.

The signings of Rice and O'Connor bring the total amount of new signings made by Tony Cousins to 7 ahead of the 2014 season.
